Until July 16, 2022 Seocho-gu Resident Participatory Budget Proposal Submission... Resident-Driven Discovery, Proposal, and Selection of 'Life-Resonant Resident-Friendly Projects' Reflected and Promoted in District Administration
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Jo Eun-hee) is accepting applications for the 2022 Resident Participatory Budget Proposal Projects until July 16.
The Resident Participatory Budget is a democratic system aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in financial management through residents' participation in the budgeting process.
Residents directly propose projects needed in Seocho-gu, and the final selection is made through a resident vote.
The selected projects will be reviewed by the district council's budget committee at the end of 2021 and reflected in the 2022 budget for implementation.
The target projects are Seocho-gu projects that residents hope to be included in next year's budget, such as lifestyle-oriented projects favored by residents and local issue projects by district. Any Seocho-gu resident or worker/student located in the district can propose a project.
Project proposals can be submitted online through the Seocho-gu website, or by mail or in person at the district office or local community centers.
Submitted resident proposal projects will be finalized around September through the Resident Participatory Budget Committee and local district meetings, followed by a final vote. Considering the COVID-19 situation, the process will actively utilize online platforms and proceed non-face-to-face.
The total budget scale is 2 billion KRW, distributed by region to ensure that local issues and long-standing projects are evenly reflected.
Meanwhile, last year, the district also selected and implemented lifestyle-oriented resident-friendly projects through a proposal contest.
Representative examples include ▲ installation of waste ice pack collection boxes to separate and dispose of increased waste ice packs due to the rise in deliveries after COVID-19 ▲ installation of LED lights along Yangjaecheon Stream, policies that help residents closely in their daily lives.
Seocho-gu Mayor Jo Eun-hee stated, “I hope that the proposals directly suggested by residents, reflected in the budget through sufficient communication and empathy, will become a great foundation for the development of Seocho-gu’s administration. We look forward to active participation.”
