[Asia Economy Reporter Junhyung Lee] The bereaved family of the late Honorary Chairman Sangyoung Jeong of KCC and Minjok Leadership Academy recently held the "Late Honorary Chairman Sangyoung Jeong KCC Bereaved Family and Minjok Leadership Academy Global Talent Development Support Fund Agreement Ceremony" at Minjok Leadership Academy located in Hoengseong-gun, Gangwon Province, the 15th announced. The bereaved family and Minjok Leadership Academy agreed on the need to nurture convergence talents combining humanities and science and decided to prepare educational conditions suitable for this.
The fund of 10 billion KRW established from the late Honorary Chairman Jeong's legacy will be used for ▲ scholarships for talented and low-income students ▲ discovery of gifted individuals in various fields and development of educational programs ▲ expansion and training of faculty, among others.
Separately from this fund, the bereaved family also promised additional support at the KCC Group level. Minjok Leadership Academy has been operated under a full scholarship system according to its founding purpose, but due to the foundation's financial difficulties, it is currently operated with students' tuition fees. Chairman Mongjin Jeong of KCC separately donated 3 billion KRW of personal funds to revive the original founding purpose of Minjok Leadership Academy. This donation will be used to select 20 scholarship students annually and support their studies for three years.
Additionally, KCC Group plans to carry out renovations of aging classrooms, auditoriums, and gymnasiums as part of its social contribution. The infrastructure support construction worth 2 billion KRW for future educational environments will be conducted at the group level, according to KCC Group. KCC Group will begin construction during this summer vacation period.
KCC Group will also conduct various industry-academia linked science talent development programs such as mentoring by master's and doctoral researchers and science experiment camps in connection with the KCC Central Research Institute.
A KCC official said, "It is very meaningful that the bereaved family of the late Honorary Chairman Jeong donates the legacy to nurture talents and realize 'Talent for the Nation.' We hope that the long-standing wish of the late Honorary Chairman Jeong, who has willingly donated 50 billion KRW of personal funds to nurture talents and help secure talents needed by the country, will be fulfilled together with Minjok Leadership Academy."
