Increase in Fishermen's Income through Release of 2 Million Juvenile Shrimp

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Jeong Jong-sun) announced on the 15th that it released 2 million shrimp seeds, produced by the Jeollanam-do Marine Fisheries Science Institute Resource Development Research Center, into Naejeohang in Daedeok-eup and Sakgeumhang in Hoejin-myeon on the 11th to increase the high value-added shrimp resources and boost fishermen's income.
The shrimp seed release event was held in compliance with the basic COVID-19 social distancing guidelines, with participation from fishing village residents, Jangheung-gun officials, and the Jangheung branch of the Marine Fisheries Science Institute.
Additionally, the fishermen who participated in the event pledged continuous interest and commitment to protecting marine resources so that the shrimp seeds can grow and become a source of income for the fishermen.
The Tamjingang Fisheries Research Center of Jangheung-gun, which hosted the release event, plans to continue promoting release projects in cooperation with local fishermen to restore marine and freshwater resources and revitalize the local economy.
Governor Jeong Jong-sun stated, “We will continue to conduct releases of marine resources, which are decreasing due to climate change and environmental pollution, to increase fishermen's income and establish a stable fishery resource base.”
