[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Netflix has promoted two content executives responsible for discovering excellent Korean content and spreading the Korean Wave. This move is interpreted as reflecting Netflix's interest in Korea, which announced it would invest about 550 billion KRW in Korean content this year.
On the 15th, Netflix announced in its promotion that Director Kang Dong-han of the Korean office was appointed as VP of Korean Content, and VP Kim Min-young was appointed as head of content for the Asia-Pacific region excluding India.
Among a total of six promotions in the Asia region, two were Korean content executives. This is seen as a measure reflecting Netflix's interest in Korean content. Earlier this year, Netflix announced plans to invest about 550 billion KRW in Korean content in 2021.
Kang Dong-han, VP overseeing overall Korean content, joined Netflix in 2018. He contributed to introducing excellent Korean content to global viewers by strengthening premium content and expanding global distribution. Last year, he led the strategic partnership with Studio Dragon, a subsidiary of CJ ENM, helping popular works such as "Psycho But It's Okay," "Itaewon Class," and "Crash Landing on You" reach worldwide audiences.
VP Kim Min-young will oversee not only the Korean market but also all Asia-Pacific content excluding India. Since joining Netflix in 2016 as the first Asia content lead, Kim Min-young has discovered and supported Korean storytellers. High-quality series such as "Kingdom," "Extracurricular," "Sweet Home," and films like "Space Sweepers," "Night in Paradise," "Call," and "Time to Hunt" have reached global audiences thanks to her efforts.
