"New Product Expected to Launch in Second Half of 2022"
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Amid fierce competition in foldable smartphones, there is a forecast that Motorola will not release a successor to last year's 'Razr 5G' within this year.
On the 14th (local time), Ross Young, a display specialist analyst, revealed on Twitter that Motorola does not plan to launch a successor to last year's Razr 5G this year. The new product is expected to be unveiled in the second half of next year, 2022.
The reason for the delay is that the design is undergoing a complete review. Ross Young stated, "Motorola is trying to redevelop a new foldable design."
Motorola was one of the pioneers to first introduce foldable phones but is considered to have fallen behind compared to Samsung and others. PhoneArena noted, "Considering Samsung's great success, it is assumed that a few other market participants did not perform well," adding, "It would be reasonable for Motorola to maintain (existing) Android handsets instead of foldables this year."
First released in 2019, the Motorola Razr phone received both praise and criticism at launch. Last year, an updated version with 5G mobile communication capabilities was released. However, it was evaluated to have fallen behind in the competition as market response was not as favorable as Samsung's 'Galaxy Z Flip.'
