Relieving Public Anxiety Due to Frequent Redevelopment Collapse Accidents, Emergency Safety Inspections
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) ordered a work stoppage at the demolition site on the 13th and conducted an emergency safety inspection on the 14th with experts present, to urgently check the safety status of demolition sites of similar scale to the Gwangju redevelopment collapse accident.
As a result of the inspection, the building under demolition was reviewed as not requiring urgent safety measures; however, for safer site management during the future demolition of major components (such as columns), the district decided to re-examine the demolition plan.
Additionally, the submitted demolition plan will be reviewed and advised directly by experts recommended by Seoul City, separately from the expert review results submitted by the private client, to enhance the safety reliability of the demolition plan.
The demolition site in the area of 49-29 Nogosan-dong, Mapo-gu, is scheduled to resume work after expert consultation confirms that the demolition plan is appropriate.
This is a follow-up measure in accordance with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Seoul City's directive to temporarily halt work at ongoing demolition sites to prevent recurrence of similar accidents following the recent collapse accident, and to allow construction to resume only after confirming safety.
Meanwhile, considering the growing anxiety among residents regarding construction sites such as building collapses, the district has completed safety inspections of construction sites in maintenance zones within the area and plans to enforce stricter management of construction sites going forward.
Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, stated, “I sincerely express my deepest condolences regarding the recent safety accidents, and as residents’ anxiety about construction sites is rising, we will do our utmost to manage construction sites within Mapo-gu to prevent recurrence of similar accidents.”
