[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] U.S. President Joe Biden stated, "Defending Europe, Turkey, and Canada is America's sacred duty," and added, "I want all of Europe to know that the United States is here," according to major foreign media reports on the 14th (local time).

According to the reports, President Biden visited NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, to attend the NATO summit held that day, stating, "Article 5 of the NATO treaty is a sacred duty."

Article 5 of the NATO treaty stipulates collective defense, stating that "an armed attack against one member is considered an attack against all members, and individual or collective response will be taken immediately." This is a core provision of the treaty. This stance contrasts with that of former President Donald Trump, who even mentioned withdrawing from NATO.

President Biden also raised the need to check China and Russia. He explained, "Over the past few years, there has been a growing recognition of new challenges to us," adding, "There are Russia and China that do not act in ways consistent with what we desire."

Meanwhile, the meeting is attended by the leaders of the 30 NATO member countries, led by President Biden.
