[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in, who is on a state visit to Austria, held a summit meeting with President Alexander Van der Bellen on the 14th (local time). After the meeting, they signed a 'Cultural Cooperation Agreement' aimed at expanding cultural exchanges between the two countries.
The Blue House announced that President Moon held a summit at the Hofburg Palace with President Van der Bellen, where they extensively discussed ▲bilateral relations ▲global issues such as climate and environment ▲the situation on the Korean Peninsula and international affairs.
This is the first time a President of the Republic of Korea has visited Austria since diplomatic relations were established in 1892.
The two leaders agreed that their countries are optimal partners for responding to the Fourth Industrial Revolution era and discussed ways to deepen a future-oriented partnership.
In particular, they agreed to cooperate by combining Austria’s scientific and technological capabilities with Korea’s commercialization abilities in fields such as science and technology and future-oriented advanced industries to produce mutually beneficial outcomes.
Regarding climate change response, the two leaders agreed to closely cooperate to realize the vision of carbon neutrality. President Moon also expressed gratitude for Austria’s participation in the P4G Summit hosted by Korea at the end of last month.
President Moon explained the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula and the South Korean government’s efforts to establish peace on the peninsula, requesting Austria’s continued support as a leading country in disarmament and non-proliferation. President Van der Bellen responded, "I deeply sympathize with President Moon and our government’s efforts to establish peace on the Korean Peninsula."
After the meeting, under the presence of both presidents, the 'Cultural Cooperation Agreement' was signed. The agreement includes ▲expansion of bilateral cultural exchanges ▲establishment of a joint committee for implementation of the agreement and signing of an implementation plan.
