Suncheon-si Lays Foundation for Policy Making Through Economic Census Implementation

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced that, together with Statistics Korea, it will conduct an Economic Census targeting 17,372 businesses engaged in industrial activities in Suncheon from the 14th of this month until the 30th of next month.

Based on last year's data, the Economic Census is used as fundamental data for statistical compilation and regional economic policy formulation by understanding the structure of employment, production, and other aspects across industries.

This year, four items have been added to the survey: in the common items, the place of operation; and in the characteristic items, the introduction of unmanned payment devices, whether delivery (courier) sales are conducted, whether digital platform transactions occur, and the number of convenience facilities.

The survey will be conducted through internet surveys using PCs and mobile devices, as well as face-to-face interviews.

Businesses wishing to participate in the internet survey can receive a participation number and password from surveyors between the 14th and the 9th of next month, then access the Economic Census website to participate. For businesses not participating in the internet survey, surveyors will visit and conduct face-to-face interviews from the 16th of this month until the 30th of next month.

The city plans to strictly adhere to quarantine rules such as wearing masks and hand sanitization to prevent the spread of COVID-19 when surveyors visit businesses. To conduct this survey, 64 surveyors were hired and completed training on survey guidelines and cases, COVID-19 quarantine guidelines, and safety accident prevention by the 1st of this month.

A city official stated, "The collected data will be strictly protected and cannot be used for purposes other than statistical compilation in accordance with Article 33 (Confidentiality Protection) of the Statistics Act," and added, "We ask for active cooperation in the Economic Census, which serves as important basic data for regional economic policies."
