Reviewing Permits, Contracts, and Demolition Plans to Identify Collapse Causes

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The Central Building Accident Investigation Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has launched a full-scale investigation to determine the cause of the building collapse accident in Dong-gu, Gwangju, and has requested citizens to provide photos and videos related to the collapse accident.
On the 14th, the Ministry of Land announced that it formed an accident investigation committee on the 10th under the Building Management Act to identify the cause of the collapse accident in Dong-gu, Gwangju, and to prepare measures to prevent recurrence, and that a full-scale investigation has been underway since the kickoff meeting on the 11th.
The investigation committee explained, "To conduct a more in-depth analysis of this accident, it is necessary to secure reference materials regarding the process before and after the collapse of the fallen building," and added, "We are waiting for reports from the public."
To enable the investigation committee to make professional and fair judgments, the Korea Infrastructure Safety & Technology Corporation is supporting initial response and related tasks at the accident site.
The investigation committee plans to thoroughly examine all areas including construction permits, contract processes, demolition plans, compliance with safety regulations during demolition, and the role of supervision, in order to clarify the cause of the collapse accident.
Chairman Lee Young-wook stated, "Reports from citizens who possess photos or videos capturing warning signs before the collapse or the collapse process itself can be used as decisive materials for identifying the cause of the accident."
