Modern and Contemporary Art Exhibition 'Hwang Hye Hol Hye' Held at Gyeongnam Provincial Museum of Art

Appreciating Joseon Minhwa Featuring the Modern Art Form Language from Over 150 Years Ago

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] The Gyeongnam Provincial Museum of Art will hold the exhibition "Hwang Hye Hol Hye 恍兮惚兮" from the 25th of this month to October 10th.

In this exhibition, visitors can appreciate works by contemporary artists, including "Joseon Minhwa," which employed the visual language of modern art over 150 years ago.

About 30 Minhwa pieces will be showcased, featuring a total of 16 artists such as Lee Seunghee, Jeon Jeongwoo, Choi Haneul, and Ryu Seongsil. Additionally, works by Park Saegwang, Jang Ukjin, Kim Kichang, Jeon Hyukrim, and Lee Ufan will also be on display.

This exhibition, resonating with the thematic consciousness of the late Joseon period and contemporary issues, is organized into four sections.

The introductory section, "Two Suns," attempts an aesthetic approach to questions of tradition and modernity, exploring not only the era of Minhwa but also "What is new?"

In the remaining three spaces, visitors can observe how the tradition of Minhwa constructs modernity through the works of contemporary artists.

Kim Jongwon, director of the Gyeongnam Provincial Museum of Art, stated, "Hwang Hye Hol Hye is a phrase from Chapter 21 of Laozi's Tao Te Ching, meaning 'there is substance in the deep and dark place where the sun rises and sets.' Keeping this in mind while viewing will make the experience even richer."
