The Democratic Party urges resignation of lawmakers suspected of real estate speculation... 2 out of 3 say "Well done"

On the 14th, Realmeter conducted a survey commissioned by YTN's 'The News' on the 11th, targeting 500 people nationwide aged 18 and older, to evaluate the Democratic Party's recommendation for members suspected of real estate speculation to leave the party. The results showed that 66.3% responded that it was a "well-done action" (38.6% said very well done, 27.7% said somewhat well done).

Negative responses saying it was a "wrong action" accounted for 27.6% (19.5% said very wrong, 8.1% said somewhat wrong), and 6.1% answered "don't know."

Last week, the Democratic Party requested the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission to conduct a full investigation into real estate transactions of its members of the National Assembly and their immediate families, and announced that 12 members were involved in real estate speculation. Representative Song Young-gil recommended that they leave the party, but some members strongly opposed the party's measures as excessive. However, in this survey, 2 out of 3 respondents evaluated the decision as "well done," supporting the party's decision.

By region, positive responses of "well done" were predominant in all areas. The positive responses were highest in Gwangju·Jeolla (69.6% well done vs. 29.2% wrong), followed by Incheon·Gyeonggi (68.1% vs. 26.7%), Daejeon·Sejong·Chungcheong (67.7% vs. 23.0%), Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam (66.0% vs. 24.2%), Seoul (64.6% vs. 29.6%), and Daegu·Gyeongbuk (63.5% vs. 30.5%).

By age group, response distributions varied. Notably, 80.7% of respondents in their 40s said it was "well done," significantly exceeding the overall average. This was followed by those in their 50s (70.8%), 60s (67.3%), and 20s (61.0%) in order of positive responses.

This survey contacted 9,032 people nationwide aged 18 and older on the 11th, with a final 500 respondents completing the survey, resulting in a 5.5% response rate (with two callbacks to non-respondents after confirming the sampling frame to improve response rate). It was conducted via random digit dialing (RDD) automatic response method using a randomly generated sampling frame of 90% mobile and 10% landline phones. The sampling error margin is ±4.4 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For more details, refer to the Realmeter or the Central Election Survey Deliberation Commission websites.
