[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Solus Advanced Materials (formerly Doosan Solus) announced on the 14th that it has received supply approval from LG Display for key materials of large TV organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels and is preparing for full-scale mass production.

The key material is the hole transport layer (HTL), which Solus Advanced Materials independently developed and holds a patent for. OLED panels consist of a common layer through which current flows and an emitting layer that produces light. The HTL belongs to the common layer and determines the luminous efficiency and panel lifespan, making it the most used layer in OLED panels. This material is planned to be applied to LG Display's TV OLED panels.

Kim Tae-hyung, head of the Electronic Materials Business Division at Solus Advanced Materials, said, "We aim to gradually expand HTL supply to LG Display's Paju factory production line to respond to the first year of OLED TV popularization."

Meanwhile, the Electronic Materials Business Division of Solus Advanced Materials also holds independent patents for the hole blocking layer (HBL), its main revenue product, maintaining an exclusive position in the OLED organic materials market for eight consecutive years. From the second half of this year, the company plans to expand its business area to non-emitting materials such as polymer EN materials and quantum dot (QD) inks, in addition to emitting materials.
