[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Eun-byeol] Amid the revelation of Janssen vaccine overdose at a primary medical institution in Buan-gun, Jeonbuk Province, the Jeonbuk health authorities announced their intention to revoke the designation of the entrusted medical institution.

A representative from the provincial health authorities stated on the 13th, "(Vaccine overdose) is absolutely unacceptable," and added that they plan to cancel the designation of the entrusted medical institution.

However, they also said, "We want to correct the misinformation. Vaccines are not medicines," and "While there were significant procedural issues, medically, an overdose of the vaccine does not necessarily cause side effects. Currently, all five individuals who received the overdose are in good health."

A clinic in Buan-gun is under investigation by health authorities for overdosing five recipients with the Janssen vaccine on the 10th and 11th. The Janssen vaccine is supposed to be divided from one vial into five doses, but the medical staff at this clinic reportedly administered the entire vial to one person.

The five individuals in their 30s who received the Janssen vaccine in this manner at the clinic are currently hospitalized and receiving treatment at Jeonbuk National University Hospital and Jeonju Jesus Hospital. Among them, one showed symptoms of high fever, but no other adverse reactions have been reported in the remaining four.

The provincial health authorities stated that they plan to conduct follow-up monitoring after the patients are discharged to prepare for any unforeseen circumstances.
