[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] The National Radio Research Agency under the Ministry of Science and ICT will conduct intensive inspections from the 14th to the 30th in collaboration with the Korea Customs Service to check compliance with electromagnetic compatibility standards for imported goods.
According to the National Radio Research Agency on the 13th, the main targets of this joint crackdown are thermal imaging cameras, sterilizers, video conferencing equipment, air purifiers, and electric masks, whose consumer demand has increased due to COVID-19 and fine dust. Also included are massage devices, LED lighting equipment, and projectors, which frequently show non-compliance during the post-management stage of conformity assessment.
They plan to conduct focused inspections on devices imported through Incheon Customs, Busan Customs, and others, verifying conformity assessment certification and compliance with technical standards. If violations are found, sanctions such as refusal of customs clearance and corrective orders will be imposed.
This aims to block illegal and substandard broadcasting and communication equipment at the import customs clearance stage to prevent radio interference caused by illegal equipment and to protect public health from electromagnetic waves.
The Radio Testing and Certification Center of the National Radio Research Agency plans to distribute conformity assessment promotional materials to manufacturers, importers, and sellers of broadcasting and communication equipment to explain the electromagnetic compatibility system and promote compliance requirements such as testing, certification, and KC mark attachment.
Jung Sam-young, head of the Radio Testing and Certification Center at the National Radio Research Agency, stated, “We will strive to thoroughly block illegally distributed or non-compliant imported broadcasting and communication devices before customs clearance.”
Jung Ki-seop, director of the Export and Import Safety Inspection Division at the Korea Customs Service, urged, “We will strengthen customs management of broadcasting and communication equipment at the clearance stage to prevent consumer damage, and we ask importers to comply with related laws and regulations.”
