[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] Regarding the collapse disaster of a demolished building in Gwangju, the prosecution has announced its position to decide on the autopsy of the deceased by respecting the opinions of the bereaved families.
According to the legal community on the 11th, the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office stated that it instructed the police to decide whether to execute the autopsy warrant by respecting the opinions of the bereaved families as much as possible during the execution process of the autopsy warrant for the victims of the Hakdong building collapse.
Park Beom-gye, Minister of Justice, also visited the site that morning and said, "It is necessary to be cautious about the autopsy of the deceased." In particular, he said, "We listened to the opinions of the bereaved families regarding the autopsy," and added, "I asked the Gwangju District Prosecutor to be extremely cautious, and it was confirmed that the prosecutor also holds that position."
Meanwhile, the police applied for an autopsy warrant to clearly determine the cause of death of the victims in this accident, and the court issued it. In response, some of the bereaved families questioned whether the autopsy procedure was necessary, given that it is clear that the collapse of the demolished building was the cause of death of the victims.
