Jo Jeong-rok, former head of the Suncheon City Forestry Cooperative in Jeollanam-do, donated 10 million won to the Suncheon City Talent Development Scholarship Foundation on the 9th. Jo has donated a total of 31 million won so far to support talent development.
Jo said, “I also worked as a public official at Suncheon City Hall for over 40 years before retiring,” and added, “I wanted to contribute in some way to nurturing our local talents, so I participated. I hope that by gathering the sincere support of the citizens, students can dream of the future and continue their path of learning without any disruption, and that we all take care of each other.”
In this regard, Jo has annually supported the Suncheon City Talent Development Scholarship and has taken the lead in social contribution projects such as the virtue movement, donations to overcome COVID-19, and helping underprivileged neighbors.
In particular, under Jo’s leadership and the efforts of all employees, the Suncheon Forestry Cooperative became the first in Jeollanam-do to surpass assets of 100 billion won. Through revitalizing credit business, it achieved loans and deposits of 135 billion won and plans to pay dividends at the legal maximum rate of 3.4%. It has also set aside 1.6 billion won in statutory reserves and 600 million won in business preparation funds and next fiscal year’s carryover, earning recognition as a well-established forestry cooperative.
Additionally, Jo promotes tree planting every year to reduce fine dust and create pleasant green spaces.
Meanwhile, the Suncheon City Talent Development Scholarship Foundation, established in 2001, has awarded scholarships totaling 1.84 billion won to 2,201 recipients, including those improving academic achievement, special talents, low-income students, and foreign international students.
