Park Soo-hyun, the Blue House Chief of Communication, stated that President Moon congratulated Lee around 1:20 PM that day. Lee was elected as party leader with a combined approval rating of 43%. This is the first time in constitutional history that a person in their 30s has been elected as party leader.
President Moon said, "You have accomplished a great feat. It is admirable," and added, "This is a historic event in our political history."
He continued, "I believe this is a sign of change not only in politics but also in our country," and said, "Although confrontation is inevitable at the party level or in Yeouido politics during the presidential election phase, it would be good to cooperate with the government as the COVID-19 crisis continues."
