[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The government will increase the import volume of eggs to 70 million units this month.

Hong Nam-ki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, visited an imported egg distribution company in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province on the 10th and said, "Early stabilization of egg prices, which have a high public perception, is important to stabilize the cost of living for ordinary people," adding, "The import volume of eggs in June will be expanded from the initially planned 50 million units to 70 million units by adding 20 million units."

The government also announced that it will continue efforts to expand consumer demand by expanding facilities capable of handling the additional import volume and selling one tray of eggs (30 eggs) at 5,450 won.

Deputy Prime Minister Hong also visited the stockpiling facility of the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province today to inspect the storage conditions of stockpiled agricultural products.

Hong said, "For agricultural products with high price and supply-demand volatility depending on the season to be supplied stably to consumers, accurate stockpiling and timely release by the government are very important," and urged, "Supply 80,000 tons of government stockpiled rice within this month to stabilize rice prices." He added, "For onions, garlic, and napa cabbage, whose prices have recently stabilized, ensure the stockpiled volume is secured without fail to proactively respond to weather changes in the second half of the year."
