Launch of the 12th Government SW Maestro Training Program

12th Term Launch Ceremony Held Online and Offline on the 10th

[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The government's advanced software talent development program will continue this year.

The 12th inauguration ceremony of the 2021 Software Maestro, hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation and the Korea Information Industry Association, will be held simultaneously online and offline on the 10th at the Software Maestro Training Center in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul.

Software Maestro is a program designed to cultivate top software talents with technical skills and creativity through intensive expert mentoring and advanced learning for trainees who have talent and passion in related fields.

Since its inception in 2010, the program has produced 1,146 advanced talents in the software field and achieved an employment and startup rate exceeding 90%. Two startup CEOs who completed the program were also selected for Forbes' ‘2020 Asia Global Leaders 300’ in the United States.

This year, a total of 1,978 applicants applied for the selection process, and after fierce competition including first and second coding tests and in-depth interviews, 180 prospective trainees were finally selected. They will receive self-directed advanced learning and mentoring for about six months.

This inauguration ceremony will be held as an event to enhance bonding and communication among trainees both online and offline, including the awarding of certificates to 15 outstanding members of the 11th class, the oath-taking by the representative of the 12th class trainees, the handing over of the Software Maestro flag, and a keynote speech.

Park Yoon-kyu, Director of the Information and Communications Policy Office at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, “Graduates of the Software Maestro program have achieved excellent results in various fields such as employment and startups, paper publications, and competition awards,” and added, “I hope the trainees will complete the training course with passion that does not fear failure and become maestros (masters) in Korea’s software field.”
