[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Shinsegae Simon will open the 'Jeju Premium Outlet' at Jeju Shinhwa World in Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo-si, Jeju, during this summer peak season. This is the first premium outlet to open in Jeju.

Shinsegae Simon announced on the 10th, "The Jeju Premium Outlet is scheduled to open as early as July with an area of 8,834.54㎡ (approximately 2,700 pyeong)," adding, "More than 50 brands, including international luxury brands, are preparing to open stores."

Prior to this, a large-scale local talent recruitment of about 250 people will begin. Shinsegae Simon stated that it will hold the 'Jeju Premium Outlet Job Fair' at the Jeju Shinhwa World Landing Convention Center from 10 a.m. on the 23rd. The job fair is hosted by Shinsegae Simon and supported by the Jeju Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Jeju Regional Human Resources Development Committee.

Shinsegae Simon expects this job fair to alleviate employment insecurity caused by COVID-19 and contribute to reducing the unemployment rate in the province. According to Statistics Korea, Jeju Province saw a rise in unemployment to 3.9% in April, up 1.3 percentage points from the same month last year, as foreign tourists decreased due to COVID-19, leading to downsizing in duty-free shops and other sectors.

The job fair will feature 25 companies, including tenant brands of Jeju Premium Outlet, Shinsegae Group affiliates such as Shinsegae International and Starbucks Korea, operating partners, and the Jeju Shinhwa World operator, Lamjeong Jeju Development, collectively hiring about 250 people. The recruitment targets will be expanded from shop masters who operate stores to baristas, facility management, cleaning, guides, hotel services, F&B, and more, providing job seekers with more opportunities.

Choi Chang-hyun, CEO of Shinsegae Simon, said, "This job fair will provide job seekers with opportunities to choose from various positions while enhancing local employment creation and the competitiveness of the tourism industry," adding, "Going forward, Shinsegae Simon will establish itself as a reliable partner that communicates with and grows alongside the local community."

Shinsegae Simon explained, "When opening the Yeoju, Paju, Busan, and Siheung Premium Outlets, we also held job fairs prioritizing local residents for recruitment," noting, "About 90% of the employees working at Yeoju Premium Outlet are Yeoju citizens."

For the convenience of job seekers on the day of the event, shuttle buses will operate. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., buses will depart from Best Western Hotel in Jeju City, the back gate of Hotel Marina, and the parking lot of Seobok Exhibition Hall in Seogwipo City. The event will be conducted in compliance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines, and job seekers must undergo temperature checks and verify the Jeju Safety Code to enter. All job seekers will be provided with a safety kit for protection.

Detailed information can be found at the official operator's dedicated job portal Career job center. Job seekers who cannot attend in person can also apply online.
