[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Choyoung] A man in his 20s who reported that his father in his 50s had died was arrested on charges of murdering his father after several months of police investigation.

On the 9th, the Michuhol Police Station in Incheon announced, "We have arrested and are investigating a man in his 20s, Mr. A, on charges of killing a direct ascendant." Judge Jung Wooyoung, in charge of warrants at the Incheon District Court, conducted a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant review) for Mr. A and issued an arrest warrant, citing "concerns about flight risk."

Mr. A is accused of repeatedly assaulting his father, Mr. B, in his 50s, at their home in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, on January 4, causing his death. On the morning of the same day, police who responded to Mr. A's report that "my father has died" found bruises all over Mr. B's body and requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death.

Based on the autopsy results, the police presumed criminal suspicion, as the National Forensic Service indicated that "several organs appear to have been damaged," and conducted an internal investigation for about five months.

Three forensic experts reviewed the autopsy documents and conveyed to the police their opinion that "the death is presumed to be due to assault, and the bruises appear to have occurred the day before Mr. B died."

Mr. A, who had been living alone with his father, denied all charges of murder during the police investigation, claiming that "the bruises and wounds on my father's body were caused by falling."

After analyzing the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage near the residence for two weeks before Mr. B's death, the police confirmed that no one other than the father and son entered the home. Based on these circumstances, the police applied for a pre-arrest warrant, believing Mr. A killed his father.

A police official explained, "It took a long time to receive the results after requesting autopsy evaluations from several forensic experts to prove the charges," adding, "We applied the charge of killing a direct ascendant rather than manslaughter because Mr. A assaulted his father with intent to kill."
