[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol will attend the opening ceremony of the Independence Activist Udang Lee Hoe-young Memorial Hall on the afternoon of the 9th.
A representative from Yoon's side stated, "Former Prosecutor General Yoon has decided to attend this event hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government."
This is his first official event since retiring in March, and his first public appearance in over two months since the early voting for the April 7 by-elections on April 2.
Also expected to attend are Lee Jong-chan, former National Intelligence Service Director and grandson of Lee Hoe-young, and former lawmaker Lee Jong-gul.
Udang Lee Hoe-young was a figure who, after the disbandment of the Korean Empire's army by Japanese colonial forces, sold all his property and, along with his six brothers, moved to Manchuria. There, he led the founding of the secret independence movement organization Sinminhoe and established the Shinheung Military Academy, playing a leading role in the anti-Japanese independence movement.
