KISA Releases 'Malware Feature Information' to the Public

[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] The Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) announced on the 8th that it will publicly release malicious code feature information that can be utilized in artificial intelligence (AI) technology to the private sector.

This measure comes in response to the recent shift to the digital new normal era, where cyber threats have become more intelligent and increased. To strengthen the nation's cyber threat response capabilities, KISA has disclosed feature information so that companies can easily apply AI to improve internal security technologies and malicious code analysis techniques.

The disclosed malicious code feature information is classified and defined into six categories: ▲ MetaData (general attributes of files) ▲ Dynamic Info ▲ Static Info (malicious behavior information of files) ▲ Network ▲ ATT&CK Matrix (strategies and techniques of malicious code attacks) ▲ ETC (other additional key data). It provides 72 detailed feature information items per category along with example data and explanations.

KISA emphasized that the biggest characteristic is that the information reflects KISA’s know-how accumulated from years of analyzing and responding to security incidents and actual attack data. Detailed information can be found in the KISA Boho Nara (www.boho.or.kr) data room.

KISA plans to provide original data such as malicious code samples and feature information data sets upon request from industry-academia-research stakeholders.

Lee Won-tae, Director of KISA, said, "We hope this will be an opportunity to enhance the cyber threat response capabilities of domestic information security companies and strengthen their global competitiveness." He added, "We will continue to lead national cyber defense by promptly analyzing large-scale malicious codes such as ransomware entering the country through a malicious code analysis system integrated with the latest ICT technologies and sharing the information with related organizations."
