President Moon: "G7 Invitation for 2 Consecutive Years, International Status Elevated" (Update)

Presiding over the State Council Meeting, Explaining the Significance of the UK G7 Summit... "An Opportunity to Expand Diplomatic Horizons"

[Asia Economy Reporters Ryu Jeong-min and Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in stated on the 8th, "Our country's invitation to the Group of Seven (G7) summit for two consecutive years signifies that our international status has risen to a level comparable to G7 countries."


On the same day, President Moon presided over a Cabinet meeting at the Blue House and said, "We will use the G7 summit as an opportunity to contribute to solving global issues and to expand the horizons of diplomacy." He is scheduled to attend the G7 summit held in the United Kingdom from the 11th to the 13th (local time).

At the Cabinet meeting, the deepening polarization and employment issues amid the COVID-19 situation were also focal points. President Moon expressed concern, saying, "While so-called luxury consumption has greatly increased, consumption in alleyways dominated by self-employed businesses and consumption by ordinary citizens have yet to recover."


Furthermore, President Moon urged, "Please make every effort toward an inclusive economic recovery that allows all citizens to share warmth, including the preparation of supplementary budgets utilizing additional tax revenues exceeding the budget."
