[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Hanwha Hotels & Resorts announced on the 8th that it has signed a strategic business agreement (MOU) with 3D spatial data platform company Urbanbase to explore business cooperation and joint projects.

Through this agreement, Hanwha Hotels & Resorts stated that it will establish a partnership between leading companies in the hospitality and proptech industries to create synergy at every touchpoint that can innovate spatial experiences. Proptech is a term combining property and technology, referring to real estate services that incorporate mobile, big data, and information and communication technology (ICT).

The two companies agreed to link their respective capabilities and infrastructures to build a future-oriented business model in the residential and interior markets, where customer interest is increasing. Through this, Hanwha Hotels & Resorts plans to lay the foundation for proptech businesses related to home design and interiors, attempting various additional businesses such as interior brand showroom operations and the creation of an online lifestyle platform, thereby establishing a foothold for sustainable future business development.

Moon Seok, CEO of Hanwha Hotels & Resorts, said, "Urbanbase’s virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies present a great opportunity to lead the introduction of the metaverse in the resort sector," adding, "We will discover sustainable new growth engines by reflecting rapidly changing market trends and customer demands in the post-COVID-19 era."

Urbanbase is a 3D spatial data platform that possesses numerous non-face-to-face technologies that break down the boundaries between virtual and reality, including 2D blueprint to 3D automatic modeling technology, 3D home design, and space analysis-based AR. Its representative services, '3D Home Design' and 'Urbanbase AR' corporate versions, are currently used as customer communication tools by over 50 domestic and international brands such as LG Electronics, Fursys Group, Lotte Himart, Ace Bed, and Nitori.

Ha Jin-woo, CEO of Urbanbase, said, "While exploring various ways to extend Urbanbase users’ online experiences offline, we discovered business touchpoints with Hanwha Hotels & Resorts," adding, "By combining Urbanbase’s technology with Hanwha Hotels & Resorts’ infrastructure, various spatial experience cases that will lead the future will emerge."
