Geumcheon-gu Environmental Group 'Geumha Village Residents' Council' Wins Seoul Environmental Award

'Geumha Village Residents' Council' Wins Excellence Award in Energy Saving... Non-Profit Private Organization 'Supjigi Gangjigi CEO Kim Hyesook' Wins Excellence Award in Urban Greening

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced on the 8th that the Geumha Village Residents' Council and Kim Hye-sook, CEO of the nonprofit private organization Supjigi Gangjigi, received the '2021 Seoul Metropolitan Government Environmental Award.'

The 'Seoul Metropolitan Government Environmental Award' has been given since 1997 to citizens, organizations, and companies that have contributed to creating a pleasant and green environment in Seoul. It is regarded as the most prestigious and honorable award among environmental awards in Seoul.

This award was evaluated in a total of five categories: ▲Green Technology ▲Energy Saving ▲Environmental Conservation ▲Resource Circulation ▲Urban Greening.

The 'Geumha Village Residents' Council,' which won in the energy-saving category (organization), was recognized for its energy-saving activities, including forming the residents' council in 2015, being selected as a Seoul Energy Self-Reliant Village for three consecutive years from 2017, being designated as a target area for the 2018 Urban Regeneration New Deal Project, and being selected as an excellent village in the 2019 Seoul City low-rise housing energy-saving competition organized by the city.

Additionally, in 2018, it received the Minister of Environment Award in the National Practice Division at the Low Carbon Life Practice National Competition hosted by the Ministry of Environment, gaining external recognition in the energy-saving field.

Kim Hye-sook, CEO of Supjigi Gangjigi, has been serving as the head of the nonprofit private organization Supjigi Gangjigi since 2007. She was honored for her contributions to energy efficiency improvement and urban greening by conducting climate change response education and creating a green curtain in the sunken plaza within the district office.

Moreover, CEO Kim Hye-sook has connected village resources such as volunteers into a network to handle decades-old abandoned garbage in the community, painted old fences and created murals, maintained areas with abandoned garbage and transformed them into ecological gardens, and developed a women-friendly village called Amtak Uneun Maeul. Through her leading activities not only in urban greening but also in environmental fields, she received a commendation in volunteer activities from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in 2007 and the Best Urban Agriculture Garden Award from Seoul City in 2013.
