Local Finance Central Investment Review Passed... Secured 21.9 Billion Won in National Funds
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Sangmu Incineration Plant Cultural Regeneration Project in Gwangju Metropolitan City has gained momentum after passing the Central Investment Review for Local Finance.
According to Gwangju City on the 7th, the Sangmu Incineration Plant Cultural Regeneration Project was recognized for its policy excellence based on outstanding economic feasibility and project viability during the Central Investment Review for Local Finance, and will receive 21.9 billion KRW in national funding from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
This project, promoted as part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s idle space cultural regeneration initiative, aims to transform the site into a complex space combining exhibition and experience areas integrating advanced industrial technology and art, creative support spaces, and a place for communication, sharing, and collaboration with civil society, returning it to the citizens.
The city plans to invest a total of 43.8 billion KRW, including 21.9 billion KRW in national funds and 21.9 billion KRW in city funds, by 2024 to remodel the factory building of the Sangmu Incineration Plant, which has a total floor area of 11,258㎡ and consists of one basement floor and six above-ground floors.
In particular, this year, the city will operate a pilot program for the Sangmu Incineration Plant Cultural Regeneration to review operational issues in advance after project completion and reflect the results in the remodeling design guidelines. From next year, related follow-up procedures such as architectural design competitions will be accelerated.
Kim Junyoung, Director of the City’s Culture, Tourism and Sports Office, said, “With the Sangmu Incineration Plant Cultural Regeneration Project passing the Central Investment Review, along with the ongoing representative library construction project, the Sangmu district is expected to be developed into a complex cultural district at the center of Gwangju’s southwestern area. We will do our best to satisfy citizens’ cultural enjoyment needs.”
