[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Customs Service and Coupang Corp. have agreed to mutually cooperate to enhance the efficiency of e-commerce customs clearance and logistics systems.
On the 7th, the Korea Customs Service announced that it signed a "Memorandum of Understanding for the Efficiency of E-commerce Customs Clearance and Logistics Systems" with Coupang at the Seoul Regional Customs Office.
The agreement was made with the aim of designing customs clearance and logistics systems, laws, and IT systems optimized for the e-commerce market based on a public-private collaboration framework.
This initiative reflects the recent surge in overseas product purchases through e-commerce and the diversification of transaction methods, aiming to establish a new customs clearance system demanded by consumers and the industry.
In particular, through this agreement, the Korea Customs Service and Coupang will cooperate to minimize customs inspections on goods purchased through online sellers to enhance consumer convenience such as faster delivery, while intensively blocking illegal and potentially harmful items.
Im Jae-hyun, Commissioner of the Korea Customs Service, stated, "We will use this agreement as an opportunity to build a 'Korean-style e-commerce customs clearance system' that is friendly to businesses and consumers."
