Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Free Operation of 'Virtual and Augmented Future Sports Experience Room'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Samho) announced that the ‘VR AR (Virtual & Augmented Reality) Future Sports Experience Room’ opened at Bitgoeul National Sports Center held a demonstration ceremony on the 7th and started free operation.

Last year, Gwangsan-gu operated a Healing VR Experience Zone (1st floor of Gwangsan-gu Office) composed of 15 healing contents.

As the effect of relieving ‘Corona Blue’ through this was highly confirmed, this year, aiming to enhance citizens’ immunity and mental and physical vitality, the ‘VR AR Future Sports Experience Room’ was created, consisting of a VR treadmill and AR experience equipment.

The VR AR Future Sports Experience Room was set up on the 3rd floor of Bitgoeul National Sports Center. It has the advantage of allowing various sports activities indoors without being affected by environmental factors such as heat waves and fine dust.

The available contents include a total of 11 types: 5 using the VR treadmill such as target shooting, archery, and agent rescue, and 6 using AR experience equipment such as basketball, soccer, baseball, and dartball.

The VR treadmill is equipment that allows a more realistic experience of virtual reality; by wearing a headset and shoes, users can walk or run in place in 360 degrees in all directions, enabling various movements.

The AR experience equipment is a device where users throw a ball at a wall screen interface projected by a beam projector to hit targets, supporting exercise for everyone from toddlers to adults.

The VR AR Future Sports Experience Room operates from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., conducting daily disinfection and quarantine to ensure the safety and health of users while complying with COVID-19 prevention guidelines.

Kim Samho, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, stated, “The VR AR Future Sports Experience Room enables realistic sports activities even indoors,” and added, “We hope it becomes a space for stress relief and immunity enhancement for citizens experiencing Corona Blue.”
