Gwangju City Election Commission Hosts High School Debate Contest; Munseong High School Wins Grand Prize

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Election Commission announced on the 7th that the ‘Unipis’ team from Munseong High School won the grand prize at the ‘7th Bitgoeul High School Debate Competition.’


The debate competition held on the 5th at the Gwangju Election Commission was participated by a total of 20 teams from 16 high schools in the Gwangju area, with two students from each school forming one team.


Among them, 8 teams that passed the preliminary round advanced to the finals and engaged in a heated debate on the topic ‘Whether online voting should be introduced in public elections.’


As a result of the competition, the ‘Unipis’ team (students Kim Woojin and Yoon Geon) from Munseong High School and the ‘Mupaewoo Seung’ team (students Go Geonwoo and Park Seungyoung) from Gwangju Jinheung High School won the grand prize and gold prize, respectively.


Both teams will represent Gwangju at the ‘2021 Korea Open Debate Competition (High School Division)’ hosted by the National Election Broadcasting Debate Commission on August 17.


The Gwangju Election Commission stated, “Through this debate competition, we were able to encounter students’ deep thinking about election culture and diverse opinions from various social perspectives,” and added, “We will continue to strive to contribute to the development of democracy and the cultivation of mature civic consciousness among students by promoting the culture of debate, an important process of democracy.”
