"Correction Principles of Gyeongseong Orthosis, Combined with the Convenience of Flexible Orthosis"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Dong-A ST announced on the 7th that it has signed an exclusive domestic and international sales contract for the scoliosis brace 'Spinamic' with the domestic spinal solution company Value & Trust (VNTC). Under this contract, Dong-A ST's medical device division and overseas business division plan to sell Spinamic using domestic and international distribution networks.
Spinamic is a garment-type hybrid brace that combines the corrective principles of rigid braces with the convenience of flexible braces. It can be worn by patients in mild stages who have difficulty wearing plastic braces and have left the condition untreated, as well as adults and disabled patients.
Like rigid braces, it implements essential corrective principles such as counter-bending, counter-rotation, and tensile force through various bands and pads. A dial device allows adjustment of compression strength according to the patient's condition improvement. Accordingly, it can be customized according to the growth status of adolescents. It is also easy to wash because it is detachable.
The Spinamic brace can be custom-made within 1 to 2 days through a process including X-ray imaging, measurement, and product adjustment. Compared to plastic braces, which require at least two weeks to produce by taking a plaster mold of the patient's body, the production period is very short.
Scoliosis is a condition in which the spine curves sideways. About 4% of the total population in Korea suffers from scoliosis, and approximately 44% of scoliosis patients are estimated to be adolescents in their growth period. Scoliosis progresses over a long period from mild to moderate to severe, and if left untreated, surgery that leaves scars and side effects must be performed.
A Dong-A ST official said, "Spinamic combines the advantages of rigid and flexible braces, and especially has the advantage of being adjustable according to the growth status of adolescents," adding, "We hope Spinamic will help improve the daily lives of patients suffering from scoliosis."
