Wemade Wins Copyright Infringement Lawsuit Against China’s Kingnet

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Wemade announced on the 7th that it won a lawsuit against Chinese game company Kingnet and others for copyright infringement and unfair competition violations related to the web game 'Namwoljeon-gi' and the mobile game 'Namwoljeon-gi 3D.'

Wemade filed lawsuits in May and July 2019 at the Hangzhou Intermediate People's Court in China after these games continued illegal service without official authorization (license delegation) for 'Legend of Mir 2.'

The Hangzhou Intermediate People's Court ruled that both Namwoljeon-gi and Namwoljeon-gi 3D, which did not have an official license for 'Legend of Mir 2,' violated copyright, and that false promotion and advertising related to these games violated the Unfair Competition Law.

Additionally, the court ordered ▲Wemade to be recognized as the copyright holder of the Chinese game Yeolhyeoljeon-gi (Korean title: Legend of Mir 2) ▲immediate suspension of the two games' services ▲prohibition of false promotional activities ▲posting a notice for 30 days stating that illegal copyright licensing had occurred.

The court also ruled that compensation of 8.2 million yuan (approximately 1.43 billion KRW) be paid for Namwoljeon-gi and 1 million yuan (approximately 174 million KRW) for Namwoljeon-gi 3D.

Jang Hyun-guk, CEO of Wemade, stated, "This is a ruling from a reputable Chinese court clearly affirming the rights of the original copyright holder of Legend of Mir 2. We will hold those responsible for illegal copyright infringement accountable to the end and fully restore our copyrights."
