[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Prince Harry and his wife, who have separated from the British royal family, have welcomed their second child in the United States. This is the first case of a royal family member high in the line of succession being born overseas.

On the 6th (local time), Prince Harry and his wife announced on the website of their charity organization, Archewell, that Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, gave birth to a daughter on the morning of the 4th at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California, according to reports by the British daily The Guardian and CNN.

The baby, weighing 3.4 kg at birth, is in good health. No photos of the child have been released. The couple said, "She is more than we ever imagined," and expressed gratitude for the love and prayers sent from around the world.

The child's name is "Lilibet Diana," honoring Prince Harry's grandmother Queen Elizabeth II and mother Princess Diana. Lilibet is a nickname for Queen Elizabeth II.

Lilibet, the 11th great-grandchild of Queen Elizabeth, is eighth in the line of succession to the British throne. CNN explained, "Lilibet is the first royal family member born overseas who ranks so high in the line of succession."

The British royal family issued a statement of congratulations and welcome on Lilibet's birth. Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton tweeted, "Everyone is delighted by the happy news of Lilibet's birth," and extended their congratulations to Harry, Meghan, and Archie. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also said, "I warmly congratulate the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of their daughter."

Prince Harry and his wife, who married in May 2018, welcomed their first son, Archie Harrison, in May the following year. In January last year, they declared their independence by stepping back from senior royal duties and becoming financially independent, subsequently moving to California, USA.
