Gangseo-gu Announces 'Neighborhood Resident Group Formation Project' Contest Until the 25th... Supporting Resident Small Groups on Various Themes Including Culture, Environment, and COVID-19 Recovery... Total of 40 Groups, Up to 1 Million KRW per Group
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] ‘Mippeunuri’ in Yeomchang-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, is a co-parenting group that means ‘Reliable Us.’ Last year, due to the spread of COVID-19, when children could not attend school, they planned and applied for a project called ‘Wise Neighborhood Life,’ where mothers and children grow together. Through small play and sharing practices with peers, the children created joyful memories. A mother participant, Sim ○○, said, “It was great to become good neighbors and friends,” adding, “After my child had good experiences with friends, there were more positive expressions than irritation or complaints.”
The first step of the residents’ group, Gangseo-gu supports it firmly.
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) announced that it will recruit candidates to participate in the ‘Neighborhood-level Resident Group Formation Contest Project’ until the 25th.
The ‘Neighborhood-level Resident Group Formation Project’ supports creating neighbors who share common interests centered on the neighborhood and starting village community activities.
Groups formed voluntarily by three or more residents for the first time are supported by the district with up to 1 million KRW.
Applications are possible for activities that can solve daily issues such as co-parenting, experiential education, depression, health, energy saving, and COVID-19 through resident groups.
Applicants must be resident groups or organizations where all three representative proposers live (or work) in the same neighborhood and have no prior experience with village community projects.
One-sided or beneficiary-type simple welfare projects or private gatherings such as social clubs are excluded from support, and groups must be able to conduct activities non-face-to-face depending on the COVID-19 spread situation.
The support scale is up to 1 million KRW per group, with a total of 40 groups expected to be supported.
Residents wishing to apply can visit the local neighborhood community center or apply by email by the 25th. Project proposals, business plans, and participant lists must also be submitted.
Before applying, prior consultation on the project proposal is available at the Gangseo-gu Village Autonomy Center. Detailed information can be found on the ‘Gangseo-gu Office website - Notices/News.’
The district selects support targets through expert review and village community committee evaluation, with results to be announced at the end of July. Selected groups will begin full activities from July.
A district official said, “When residents gather to engage in meaningful activities, the village community will be further revitalized,” adding, “We hope many people participate to create a happy village through small groups made with neighbors.”
Last year, the district supported 58 resident groups in various fields such as care and parenting, education and experience, and resident harmony, including co-parenting groups, upcycling activities, walking groups, musical instruments, and reading groups.
