Seoul Urban Architecture Biennale D-100 Ceremony... Signing of Letters of Intent for Exchange and Cooperation with 6 Countries

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] With the opening of the '2021 Seoul Urban Architecture Biennale' just 100 days away, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 7th that it will hold a D-100 commemorative ceremony for the successful hosting of the Seoul Biennale on the 8th at the Seoul Urban Architecture Exhibition Hall.

The Seoul Biennale is an international event hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government that explores various solutions to urban problems and facilitates cultural exchange in the field of architecture with cities around the world. This year, it will be held for 46 days from September 16 to October 31 under the theme "Crossroad, Which City Will You Live In?".

The first part, the cultural exchange cooperation ceremony, will be held at the Bium Hall of the Seoul Urban Architecture Exhibition Hall. About 30 domestic and foreign guests, including Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, Seoul Metropolitan Council Chairman Kim In-ho, ambassadors from 10 countries, and Dominique Perrault, the general director of the Seoul Biennale, will attend. Approximately 190 participating artists will join online via Zoom.

Mayor Oh will sign letters of intent for cooperation to promote cultural exchange in the field of architecture between Seoul and six countries?France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Australia, and the United Kingdom?that have maintained close cooperative relationships with Seoul through the Seoul Biennale.

The second part of the event will be held on the rooftop, Seoul Maru, of the Seoul Urban Architecture Exhibition Hall. The ceremony will begin with the unveiling of a "D-100" banner lifted by an advertising balloon, and a commemorative sculpture (approximately 3.5 meters in diameter) using the official symbol of this Seoul Biennale, the "wind rose," will be installed. Promotion will continue for 100 days until the opening ceremony.

Before the commemorative ceremony, a street parade will take place in the morning. A performance team will walk through five courses to promote the Seoul Biennale, and bubble and mime performances will be held at DDP, Sewoon Sangga, and Euljiro Square. Fans featuring the official symbol of the Biennale, the "wind rose," will also be distributed to citizens.

Meanwhile, the Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to hold this year’s Seoul Biennale across various locations in downtown Seoul, including Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), Seoul Urban Architecture Exhibition Hall, and Sewoon Sangga, showcasing a diverse range of exhibition content.
