Vegetarian Menu Contest for Nutritionists and Nutrition Teachers Until the 25th
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] To mark Environment Month in June, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education is conducting various events to practice carbon neutrality, including awareness education, a climate action certification campaign, and a vegetarian menu contest.
On the 7th, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it will hold the event "Climate Action, Let's Go!" until the 30th, encouraging people to practice climate crisis response actions in daily life and certify them online. The slogan conveys the meaning of voluntarily practicing valuable climate actions starting with oneself.
In April, 14,945 people participated in a declaration to select a climate crisis response theme themselves and put it into action, and an event was prepared to certify the fulfillment of these promises.
On the 5th, to commemorate "World Environment Day," the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education also provided educational materials on its origin and participation status. This year’s Environment Day theme, "Ecosystem Restoration," will guide students and parents to carry out practical actions.
Until the 25th, a "Green School Meal Menu Contest" will be held for nutritionists and nutrition teachers in elementary, middle, and high schools to discover excellent vegetarian menus. The plan is to build consensus on sustainable food education, explore school meal operation plans to respond to the climate crisis, and prepare support measures for school meal operations. About 30 outstanding works will be selected and provided with books related to food education.
Additionally, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and KBS1 Radio, an educational video content on climate crisis response titled "Korea Environment First Period - We Protect the Earth" was produced. It includes students’ climate crisis response actions and ecological transition education, reflecting their awareness of the seriousness of environmental issues.
Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "I hope members of Seoul education will participate together in practical actions for low-carbon and eco-friendly living," adding, "The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will continue to strive to transform into an eco-friendly organizational culture so that climate action practice and promises become part of daily life."
