Hyundai Mobis Activates AI Technology to 'Enhance Efficiency'... Surpasses 40 Application Cases

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Hyundai Mobis is accelerating the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technology across the company to enhance efficiency in research and development, production, and quality control.

On the 6th, Hyundai Mobis announced that the number of cases applying AI technology to management sites has exceeded 40.

Hyundai Mobis established a dedicated team for AI technology development in 2018 and has been conducting training to strengthen AI utilization capabilities for general employees since 2019.

Hyundai Mobis identified design and testing as the fields with the most projects. When the design of automotive parts changes even slightly, various tests must be conducted to ensure proper functionality under extreme conditions, which incurs significant time and cost.

Hyundai Mobis has used AI to resolve inefficiencies. First, when a design changes, the altered conditions are taught to an AI model to quickly derive the optimal design.

Additionally, by learning the correlations between various variables in the production process and claims, Hyundai Mobis has achieved process optimization and advanced quality inspection methods for electronic components during production. A representative example is a system that automatically identifies the most influential causes when similar problems occur by learning the correlations between accumulated production process variables and claims through AI.

This system not only recommends AI models suitable for analysis but also assists in deriving solutions. Notably, it is designed so that field personnel can utilize optimized AI models with only simple training, without needing a deep understanding of AI technology. Hyundai Mobis is also in the process of filing a patent for this system.

Besides this, Hyundai Mobis has developed models to verify the impact of organizational culture on job satisfaction, classification models for exception types to strengthen company-wide security policies, and algorithms to detect risks in partner companies in advance.

Many of these projects have expanded beyond initial expectations at the planning stage, indicating a high level of satisfaction among field departments during actual use.

Having confirmed increased work efficiency in various areas, Hyundai Mobis plans to more actively integrate AI technology throughout overall corporate management in the future.

Jung Chang-mo, head of Hyundai Mobis’s Data Science Team, explained, "We plan to continue supporting the efficient resolution of more complex issues in the field through AI technology."
