[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The spread of COVID-19 in the Jeju area shows no signs of slowing down.


According to Jeju Province on the 6th, out of 2,211 COVID-19 diagnostic tests conducted the previous day, 19 people (1112?1130) were confirmed positive.


Among the 19 confirmed cases, 13 (1112?1115, 1118, 1120?1127) were contacts of confirmed cases in the Jeju area, 2 (1116, 1129) were visitors from the Seoul metropolitan area, another 2 (1119, 1128) were overseas entrants, and 2 (1117, 1130) were symptomatic COVID-19 patients. Notably, among the 13 contacts of Jeju area confirmed cases, 5 were classified as related to cluster infections. Cases 1115, 1125, and 1126 were confirmed as contacts of confirmed cases linked to the Daetong entertainment bar located on Jungang-ro in Jeju City. Consequently, the number of confirmed cases related to the Daetong entertainment bar has risen to 17.


Two additional confirmed cases (1120, 1127) related to a family in Jeju City were added, bringing the total to 8. The remaining 7 of the 13 are identified as family members of confirmed cases in Jeju. Cases 1119 and 1128 are residents who arrived from Russia on the 4th and were tested at the airport screening clinic, receiving final confirmation on the 5th. Cases 1116 and 1129 reside in Seoul and were investigated to have arrived for tourism on the 1st and 3rd, respectively. Cases 1117 and 1130 are both residents who developed COVID-19 symptoms and underwent diagnostic testing; epidemiological investigations into their infection routes are ongoing. Additionally, the province reported that all 1,181 students, faculty, and parents at Hallim Elementary School in Jeju City, where confirmed cases occurred, tested negative after specimen collection.


Since the beginning of this month, 88 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Jeju. Notably, among the new confirmed cases in June, 63.6% (56 people) were identified as family members or acquaintances of confirmed cases in Jeju, and 22.7% (20 people) were confirmed after exhibiting symptoms or voluntarily undergoing testing, with their infection routes currently under investigation.
