[Asia Economy Kim Hyun-jun, Golf Specialist Reporter] Lee Jeong-eun6 (25, Daebang Construction) continues her late-stage battle for victory.

On the 6th (Korean time), at The Olympic Golf Course in San Francisco, California, USA (par 71, 6,383 yards), after posting 2 over par on the third day of the US Women's Open (total prize money $5.5 million), a major on the LPGA Tour, she is regrouping from a tie for 3rd place (3 under par, 210 strokes). Lexi Thompson (USA) surged to the top of the leaderboard (7 under par, 206 strokes) with a daily best 5 under par, while Yuka Saso (Philippines) holds second place, one stroke behind (6 under par, 207 strokes).

Lee Jeong-eun6 is notably the 2019 champion. Having topped the LPGA Tour Qualifying (Q) Series in November 2018, she won her first title in just nine tournaments in 2019, and that too at the 'national title of the United States,' which brought her even more spotlight. Starting the day tied for 2nd, she recorded three birdies, three bogeys, and one double bogey. Her iron shots faltered, causing struggles, and the double bogey on the 5th hole (par 4) was particularly disappointing. She is four strokes behind the leader, with ample opportunity for her second career win.

Locally, the sensational performance of high school amateur player Mega Kane (USA), who qualified through regional preliminaries, is making news. She is tied for 3rd place alongside Lee Jeong-eun6. From Korea, Park In-bee (33, KB Financial Group) is in 8th place (even par, 213 strokes), and Kim Hyo-joo (26, Lotte) is tied for 9th (1 over par, 214 strokes), both looking for opportunities. World No. 1 Ko Jin-young (26) is tied for 16th (3 over par, 216 strokes), while Kim Se-young (28) and Yoo So-yeon (31, Mediheal) remain tied for 20th (4 over par, 217 strokes).
