Raise the Price of 'ComRocket' Coin Used in Adult Content Transactions
Netizens Fiercely Criticize as "Unethical Trash"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted a tweet with obscene content, causing the price of a specific cryptocurrency used in adult content transactions to skyrocket.
On the 5th (local time), the U.S. financial media Benzinga reported that Musk posted an explicit emoji and word symbolizing male bodily fluid on Twitter that day, and the price of the related cryptocurrency called "Cumrocket" surged by more than 350%.
On the night of the 4th, Musk suddenly posted the English words for Canada, USA, and Mexico arranged vertically from top to bottom on Twitter.
Twitter users interpreted this as Musk intentionally arranging the names of the three countries by taking the first letters of the word meaning male bodily fluid.
Then Musk posted emojis on Twitter that appeared to depict male bodily fluid, along with a rocket and moon emoji. The moon symbolizes a price surge in the cryptocurrency market.
This tweet prank by Musk was understood among cryptocurrency investors as referring to the cryptocurrency Cumrocket, and the coin quickly surged.
Benzinga cited data from the cryptocurrency price site CoinMarketCap, reporting that Cumrocket rose 352% from $0.0548 to $0.2481.
Benzinga pointed out, "Musk's tweet was interpreted in the cryptocurrency market as 'Cumrocket is going to the moon,'" adding, "Musk clearly promoted Cumrocket."
The Independent also reported, "Musk sent the price of an adult-themed cryptocurrency to the moon with an explicit emoji tweet."
Cumrocket is an altcoin (cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin) created by someone claiming to be a British software engineer, aiming to build an NFT (non-fungible token) platform where users aged 18 and over can buy, sell, exchange, and collect adult content.
After the price surged due to Musk's tweet, the Cumrocket team posted on Twitter, saying, "Thank you Elon, Cumrocket is exploding," immediately using it for promotion.
Musk's tweet that boosted Cumrocket's price was met with a flood of user comments containing profanity, demanding "Stop market manipulation tweets" and calling it "unethical trash."
