[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] Krafton Inc., the game developer famous for the game 'Battlegrounds,' along with Chairman Jang Byung-gyu of the board and other current and former executives of the company, donated 11 billion KRW to the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
On the afternoon of the 4th, KAIST held a pledge ceremony at its main campus in Daejeon, attended by Chairman Jang and 11 current and former Krafton members as well as Krafton representatives, to receive a total of 11 billion KRW in development funds.
Krafton raised 5.5 billion KRW in personal donations from Chairman Jang and 10 others, then matched the amount with an equal contribution, raising a total of 11 billion KRW through a 1:1 matching grant scheme.
Previously, Chairman Jang had also donated 10 billion KRW in development funds to KAIST in January of last year. All the current and former executives who contributed to this fund are alumni of KAIST's Department of Computer Science. They were students during the tenure of current KAIST President Kwang Hyung Lee in the Computer Science Department.
With this pledged fund, KAIST plans to expand the Computer Science Department building to create student research labs, coding and project practice rooms applied in industry, spaces for social contribution education programs, and areas where Krafton's senior members can mentor their juniors.
