[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Comprehensive glass company KCC Glass announced on the 3rd that it has completed cold maintenance work on production line 5 at its Yeoju plant in Gyeonggi Province and held a firing ceremony to ignite the furnace for the first time.
The firing ceremony was attended by KCC Glass Chairman Jeong Mong-ik, KCC Chairman Jeong Mong-jin, and KCC Construction Chairman Jeong Mong-yeol. Only related executives and employees attended, and the event was conducted in compliance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines.
According to KCC, production line 5 at the Yeoju plant was first operated in August 2004. After being suspended in November 2018, cold maintenance work began in March 2021, and the line was restarted after completing the work in three months.
KCC Glass's Yeoju plant, which began production in 1987, has a total of five production lines including the restarted line 5. It is the largest glass factory in Korea, producing approximately 2,450 tons of glass per day.
In 2004, KCC was the first in the world to install a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) device, a denitrification system to reduce exhaust gases, in its glass melting facility. In 2015, it installed a Semi Dry Reactor (SDR) for desulfurization, and in 2018, it installed the latest Ceramic Catalytic Bag Filter (CCBF) system, which has excellent desulfurization and denitrification efficiency, continuously striving to minimize harmful substance emissions, KCC explained.
Additionally, KCC added that it is committed to practicing ESG management by operating power generation facilities using waste heat and solar power generation facilities utilizing factory buildings.
A KCC Glass official said, “With the restart of production line 5, more stable glass production has become possible,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to contribute to the development of the domestic glass industry through stable supply of the highest quality glass and environmentally friendly production.”
