[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] It is expected that students in the Busan area will receive a second round of educational disaster relief funds amounting to 100,000 won each. This comes one year after last year.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seok-jun) announced on the 3rd that it has decided to provide the second round of educational disaster relief funds to all students in the Busan area to alleviate the economic burden on parents caused by COVID-19 since last year and to revitalize the local economy.
This is to compensate for the educational damage to students and to guarantee their right to learn amid the ongoing COVID-19 situation.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education plans to secure a budget of 34.6 billion won for the educational disaster relief funds by reallocating expenses from projects that were canceled or reduced due to COVID-19 and the remaining balance from school meal expenditures. The supplementary budget proposal containing these details will be submitted to the Busan City Council.
If the supplementary budget passes the City Council by the end of June, the educational disaster relief funds of 100,000 won each will be transferred via school banking accounts to approximately 346,000 students in kindergartens, elementary, middle, high, and special schools in the Busan area by July 9.
Superintendent Kim Seok-jun said, “We are promoting the second support plan to ease the burden on parents who are struggling due to COVID-19.”
Last June, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education provided the first round of educational disaster relief funds of 100,000 won each to approximately 307,500 students in elementary, middle, high, and special schools in the Busan area.
