Woowa Brothers and Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service Sign MOU to Promote Medical Expense Support for Delivery Workers

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok, has joined hands with the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service to support delivery riders who have suffered industrial accidents such as traffic accidents.

On the 3rd, Woowa Brothers signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the activation of the 'Woowa Rider Care Fund' at the Community Chest of Korea building in Jung-gu, Seoul, together with the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service, the Community Chest of Korea, and the Korea Microcredit Shin-naneun Association.

The Woowa Rider Care Fund was established in 2019 when Kim Bong-jin, the founder of Woowa Brothers, donated 2 billion KRW of his personal funds to the Community Chest of Korea. The fund aims to provide emergency medical expenses and living expenses to riders injured in traffic accidents during food delivery.

The Woowa Rider Care Fund has served as a safety net protecting platform workers by platform companies, supporting a total of 37 riders with 225.94 million KRW so far; however, there have been cases where riders were unable to utilize the fund.

With this MOU, the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service plans to guide and promote the Woowa Rider Care Fund to delivery riders injured during work through its headquarters, branches, and affiliated institutions. Accordingly, from the stage of applying for industrial accident insurance, riders will be informed of the fund's existence and can receive additional financial support. The fund will also support riders who are not enrolled in industrial accident insurance or whose claims have been denied.

Woowa Brothers, Shin-naneun Association, and the Community Chest of Korea will verify applicants who apply for fund support through the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service and decide on support eligibility. They also agreed to share support cases with the Service to encourage active applications from riders.
