[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Hyundai Wia announced on the 3rd that it selected Korea Seonjin School in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, and Buseong Elementary School in Seosan, Chungnam Province, as 'Hyundai Wia Green Schools' and created forests on the school grounds.
Hyundai Wia Green School is one of Hyundai Wia's ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) activities, which involves creating forests throughout the school to help students study in a clean natural environment. Hyundai Wia previously established Namyang Elementary School in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Deokseong Elementary School in Uiwang, Gyeonggi-do, as Hyundai Wia Green Schools.
At Korea Seonjin School, Hyundai Wia created a rare plant garden featuring rare Korean plants such as Baekrihyang, Yongmeori, and Flower Iris within a total area of 600㎡, as well as a greenhouse vegetable garden and pocket gardens. In particular, considering that Korea Seonjin School is the nation's first national special education institution for students with intellectual disabilities, Hyundai Wia designed all areas with a barrier-free design to allow easy access for wheelchairs and others.
At Buseong Elementary School in Seosan, a wetland plant garden was created. Utilizing idle space next to the playground, various aquatic plants that students had difficulty seeing before were planted in the wetland plant garden. Hyundai Wia enabled students to experience the importance of aquatic environments and the beauty of aquatic plants through the wetland plant garden.
Hyundai Wia plans to continuously expand Hyundai Wia Green Schools so that students can breathe clean air and grow in harmony with the ecosystem. A Hyundai Wia official said, "We will do our best so that Korean students can grow up in a cleaner environment alongside nature," adding, "We will continue to promote various ESG activities so that small movements can bring about big changes in the world."
Meanwhile, Hyundai Wia has distributed air purifiers to a total of 100 child centers in Gyeonggi Province and Gwangju Metropolitan City, where its business sites are located.
