First Meeting of Newly Elected Lawmakers Since the 21st National Assembly Inauguration... Event Delayed Due to COVID-19 Finally Held This Time
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the morning of the 3rd, President Moon Jae-in will invite first-term lawmakers of the Democratic Party of Korea to the Blue House for a meeting.
This is the first time the Blue House has arranged a meeting with first-term ruling party lawmakers since the launch of the 21st National Assembly. According to political customs, it is common to invite first-term ruling party lawmakers to the Blue House for an event after the general election. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic that began in early last year, first-term ruling party lawmakers of the 21st National Assembly had not had the opportunity to be invited to the Blue House.
Until now, the Blue House had tried to arrange an opportunity to invite first-term ruling party lawmakers, but the schedule could not be set due to COVID-19 issues. The first-term lawmakers hoped for a meeting, and the Blue House also arranged the schedule as political justification was secured, including sharing the outcomes of the Korea-US summit.
A Blue House official said, "This event inviting first-term ruling party lawmakers, which was postponed due to COVID-19, has been arranged," adding, "The majority of first-term lawmakers are expected to attend."
Meanwhile, there is interest in whether critical remarks about government policies, such as the real estate controversy, will arise during this event where first-term ruling party lawmakers meet President Moon. Additionally, there is curiosity about whether opinions will be exchanged on political issues such as the controversy over former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk's memoir.
