Suncheon City Offers City Bus Rides to Middle and High School Students for 100 Won

Operation of 100-Won City Bus Fare Expanded to Middle and High School Students Following Elementary Students

Suncheon City Offers City Bus Rides to Middle and High School Students for 100 Won

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 2nd that starting from the 10th, it will implement the ‘100 Won City Bus Fare for Middle and High School Students’ to ease the transportation cost burden on households struggling due to COVID-19.

Currently, the city bus fare for middle and high school students is 1,200 won, and when using a transportation card, a 100 won discount is applied, making the fare 1,100 won. However, from the 10th, a discount of 1,100 won will be applied, so students only need to pay 100 won.

The discounted fare will be subsidized by the city to transportation companies based on usage performance. Along with the ‘100 Won City Bus Fare for Elementary School Students’ that has been in effect since 2018, any youth under the age of 18 can ride city buses by paying 100 won with a transportation card.

Since using transportation cards registered to parents or others may cause inconvenience in fare payment when boarding, it is necessary for youths to use transportation cards registered with their own age verification.

A city official stated, “With the implementation of the 100 Won City Bus Fare for Middle and High School Students, we expect to actively respond to the climate change crisis through the revitalization of public transportation, improve household economies and transportation company management conditions affected by COVID-19, and enhance service for users.”
