[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] Samsung Publishing is showing strong performance in the early trading session. This follows Tesla CEO Elon Musk mentioning 'Baby Shark' on Twitter.
As of 9:41 AM on the 2nd, Samsung Publishing is trading on the KOSPI market at 47,000 KRW, up 2,500 KRW (5.62%) from the previous day.
On the same day, Elon Musk tweeted, "Baby Shark crushes all! More views than humans," and retweeted a Baby Shark video.
With high expectations that SmartStudy will pursue a listing on the U.S. Nasdaq, the stock price appears to be rising on the back of Musk's single mention.
Earlier, global content company SmartStudy announced that it will expand the worldwide broadcast of the 2D animation series "Baby Shark’s Big Show!", co-produced with Nickelodeon, the world's largest kids' entertainment channel.
"Baby Shark’s Big Show!" will air on Nick Jr. channels in Europe and Oceania, including the UK on May 8, Australia on May 17, and Italy on May 24. It is scheduled to be released in South Korea in the second half of this year. Additionally, it will be sequentially broadcast in South America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Africa.
Samsung Publishing is known as the second-largest shareholder of SmartStudy, holding an 18.57% stake. Kim Min-seok, CEO of SmartStudy, is the eldest son of Kim Jin-yong, CEO of Samsung Publishing.
