Baemin "Plastic Delivery Container Recycling, Collaboration with National Assembly, Local Governments, and Startups"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Baedal Minjok, the National Assembly, local governments, and startups have joined hands to increase the recycling rate of disposable plastic delivery containers.

Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok, signed a "Business Agreement for the Resource Circulation of Disposable Plastic Delivery Containers" on the 1st at the office of Superbin located in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province, together with the office of Democratic Party lawmaker Kang Hoon-sik, Asan-si in Chungnam, and waste recycling startup Superbin. The signing ceremony was attended by Lawmaker Kang, Mayor Oh Se-hyun of Asan, CEO Kim Jeong-bin of Superbin, and Ham Yoon-sik, Head of Customer-Centric Management Division at Woowa Brothers.

Through this agreement, the four organizations plan to install a total of 20 waste plastic delivery container collection robots in Asan from September to December. When delivery containers are collected through the robots, Superbin will process the collected plastic food delivery containers into flakes and pelletize them, researching and developing a materialization process to convert them into high value-added materials.

The delivery container collection robots will be manufactured and operated by Superbin, while Woowa Brothers will support the research and production of the collection robots and promote the campaign to encourage users to participate. Asan City will provide locations for installing the PP material waste plastic collection robots and support operating costs. Lawmaker Kang Hoon-sik’s office will work on eco-friendly policy research and institutional improvements to increase the recycling rate of waste plastics.

Lawmaker Kang said, "This achievement was made possible through the cooperation of legislative innovation, administrative detail, social contribution by platform companies, and innovative technology from startups," adding, "We will continue to do our best to build a new industrial ecosystem and achieve innovation in the industrial field." Ham Yoon-sik, Head of Customer-Centric Management Division at Woowa Brothers, stated, "We will strive not only to create a resource circulation economy structure but also to meet social responsibilities and expectations in various fields."

Meanwhile, Woowa Brothers, to establish an eco-friendly delivery culture, partnered with two delivery app companies to set "not receiving disposable spoons and forks" as the default option starting from the 1st. From now on, disposable spoons and forks will only be provided upon customer request.
